Woke up to this this morning. Flash flood warnings out again during the day and this evening. They come across the TV and through my phone. The rain doesn't usually come to too much in the Waikiki area usually further west starting about Honolulu. However, it was quite heavy. So much so that we couldn't see out to sea in the event of battleship numbers etc. We did see a number of Air Force planes but not fighters today. We bused down to the eastern end of Waikiki beach under Diamond head. Always wanted to go down there to see what it is like as some nice condos for rent down there with their own beaches. Very convenient. We decided it was too quiet although not too far as the buses go right down to the end and do the loop back through Waikiki. As you can see from the photos we still had a lot of sun.
When got to the end we came across these Tudor Cottages build in 1932. The ocean is right behind them . The are build practically on the waters each.Quite quaint.
This is the seaward side of Diamond Head. It doesn't look as high from this angle but it sure was high when we climbed it from the other side a couple of years ago.
Down this end of the beach the hotels/condos are built right on the beach, no road to cross and most of them have their private beaches as you can't walk along in front of them the only access is through the hotels. Just around the corner in the photo the beaches start, but where I was here were the private homes. Beautiful home behind the fence and the garden was so well kept with all the tropical plants. So peaceful and quiet down this end. You could even see the fish swimming around and some quite big ones. A young boy was showing us around and he said that they were good eating fish. You can see the Waikiki buildings far in the distance.
Looking East. There is a big gap from the end of the Waikiki beach hotels with parks and the zoo then at the end of this beach is where the group of hotel/condos start under Diamond Head.
This is looking the other way towards where Waikiki Beach Hotels start
This shows the gap between the Waikiki beach hotels to the left and the start of the condos below Diamond Head starting far right of photo on the point. Zoo and parks in between.
Massive Banyan Tree in the park
Friday night so went down to the lagoon the see the Friday night fireworks that the Hilton put on. Which we did last Friday and posted photos them. When we walked back through our hotel the hotel had a bit of dancing and music in the foyer. I stopped to watch for awhile.
Still having flood warnings over the TV but no rain here where we are but you can see the darkness further west and as I said before it usually is at it worst there. As you can see from the above photos the rain didn't stop us from doing anything. In fact it was so hot down the other end no breeze at all and you can see we had plenty of sun.
From our balcony we have just watched/listened to Air New Zealand flight NZ10 land. 9.30pm.
