ALOHA
We woke up to this morning....heavy rain.
We had booked into going out to the Arizona memorial with Bruce and Linda although we have done it some years ago. As the weather was so bad we wondered if we should go as they probably won't run the boats out to the memorial platform, which is placed over the sunken Arizona which you can still see under the water. However we thought that we might as well go the weather might clear up by the time we were booked in at 2.45pm. As we got out there the heavens opened and wow the thunder was right over the top of us and loud. We sheltered from the rain but PT had to run over to the ticket office, more loud thunder. We were told that we could go into the theatre and watch the film on what happened that day of the7th December 1941. But the boats had stopped for the day due to the weather which was disappointing. Horrid,so many lives were lost and so many ships were sunk in Pearl Harbour that day. After the film we went outside between showers and thunder storms and walked around the grounds of memories.
The names of the 1177 lives that were lost in the Arizona. Not forgetting all the lives that were lost in all the other ships in the harbour that day and the people on the land.
Below PT Linda and Bruce drench from the rain all under our wet weather gear.
The submarine Bowfin. People were going on board but that wasn't included in our tour.
We got a Taxi out which cost $54 dollars as we were stuck in traffic jams from the bad weather. So after that we decided to get the bus back on our free tickets. The above and below relate to a cat that came on board the bus in its bag with its owner. Then she put a towel down on the back seat next to us and he immediately started to have a full clean and after awhile settled down for a sleep. The owner told us that she takes him everywhere with her. He was quite at home must do it all the time. Also Jen a man came on board and sat opposite us and he has a tattoo on his neck " Prince Cody." What next.....
After our wet thundery day by the time we got back to our hotel the sun was out and we sat and had a drink watching the beautiful sunset.
This morning when the heavy rains came alarm warnings came across our TV before we left saying severe flooding in the Honolulu area which was where we were heading. Then not long after an alarm was ringing on my phone warning everyone about the severe flood warnings. I was amazed that my phone had this service. I was the only one with this warning alarm going off in my bag. Then later in the afternoon another one came through as they had extended the time to 5.00pm.
Quite an adventurous day what with alarm warnings, thunder right over our heads, gosh it made us jump and all this very heavy rain with severe flooding. When we got off the bus at the Ala Moana shops we saw that part of the car park under the building was all under water.
I am sure tomorrow will be O.K. It doesn't usually last long in the Waikiki area.
